This is the first of 9 episodes (youtube breaks it down into ten minute episodes) presenting the weather underground. This documentary and who the weather underground was and what their goals and beliefs were, was one of the most fascinating things I've heard in a long time. Knowing that this happened on American soil is outrageous. Why do we never study this in history in our country? Why have I, an American born, raised, and educated in this country, NEVER heard of these guys? And HOW is it possible to do such things and get NO punishment whatsoever? Whatever your stance on what they did (right or wrong, doesn't matter), the fact that they did it and were a serious revolutionary movement within our country is simply mind blowing.

What a brave post. People back then had balls you know, that is what I don't like about our genaration becouse people just stop giving crap. Maybe it's becouse they were drafted back then. I would love to see what would happen if they started drafting people agine, I doubt it would make a defrince.

Salah, people did have a tendency to stand up and make noise then. However, I don't think our generation just does NOT. If you listen carefully to the documentary, the Weather Undergroung just had about thirty dedicated members do all that work. Whether it is right or wrong, they at least were VERY vocal about their viewpoint and felt that they had nothing to lose. For sure, the draft had a lot to do with people's feelings, but movies like the new MTV movie "Stop-Loss" (which I actually have not seen and am not 100% sure as to it's overall message) could be our generation's method of protest. Maybe. I'd like to explore this theory further; I actually might to do some research on it for my class. We'll see.

It does look like that the new generation does not give damn about any world issues. Maybe you need to move to San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, then I think you would notice more what your generation is doing.
Internet, satellite, and wireless communication has made news travel around the world in seconds. You hear about Darfur, Iraq, Laos, Tibet, Palestine and etc...........
you end up with a lot of news which is impossible to keep up besides your other daily life activities.
Maybe there were Vietnam, Civil Rights, Arab and Israel conflict. The only way you would get the news was through the old media which is TV, radio and newspapers which intend to be bias. Now there are so many issues in the world, that each person follows a certain cause which they are interested in plus now everyone has access to news and information.
We are living in the information revolution, I think every generation contributes something to humanity. Do not be harsh on your generation because I think they are doing great job, every part of the world there is an activist, we hear them through SMS,Instant Messengers ,youtube, blogs and websites.

I’m certainly not saying that nobody gives a damn any more, but you can’t compare our activism with that of the sixties. You’re right we are aware about what is going on in the world on a level beyond any other time, but were talking about a handful of people. The average American doesn’t even know where Libya is, so how do they know about child slavery in Cambodia and so on. One of the hardest thing about coming back from war is seeing people living a very normal life as if nothing is going on. There are so many things to think about in the world but the war in Iraq hits home for so many people, yet every one goes about living their life as if nothing is going on. I don’t expect people to live their life depressed about what is going, but I think every one should have an opinion about the mater not live a life in a state of oblivion which the majority of our generation does. But maybe it was always this way even in the sixties. If walk around Tusla today, howmany will you find that know about the awearnessblog?
